December 11 – 11 Things

December 11 – 11 Things What are 11 things your life doesn’t need in 2011? How will you go about eliminating them? How will getting rid of these 11 things change your life? (Author: Sam Davidson)
1. Clutter!
It is soooo in my way! I have entirely too much stuff. I began the process this year, but realized just how much stuff I have that I never use. Even getting down the Christmas stuff this year felt like too much. It's so much work taking care of all the stuff, when really, just a little bit goes a long way. There will be a garage sale this weekend and more will go. I want my house in order! No more dirty laundry! I want to be able to pick up and move at a moment's notice. (even though I don't plan on moving this year, I want to be ready in case the opportunity should present itself.
2. Inactivity!
I had a lovely time in 2010, sitting on my tookas and drinking entirely too much wine. I must admit that I enjoyed the hell out of myself, but my 45 year old body does not respond favorably to that kind of treatment. I must get moving! I feel so much better when I do, the brain functions more efficiently, my clothes fit and I sleep better. I am going to make exercise a habit by following Leo Babauta's advice of setting little, very attainable goals for 2011. Starting this month, I commit to getting on the treadmill 15 minutes a day. It's only 15 minutes! This should not be a problem. And once I'm there, I always stay longer, it's the getting started that's the problem.
3. Blind Spending!
I spend without thinking. Those little extras at the drugstore, the junk at the grocery store, and the clothes that are on sale that I don't love and certainly don't need are just huge cash gobblers! That has got to stop. It amazes me how quickly money disappears with nothing to show for it. I think I will put away the debit card and go all cash. When it's gone it's gone.
4. Creative Block!
My creativity got blocked a few years ago and I really miss it. In 2010, I couldn't make anything! Even dinner felt like a chore. I'm sick of it. 2011 will see a swirl of creative activity regardless of how I feel about it. Ha ha! My plan is to explore twelve different artistic avenues, one month at a time. From sculpture, to painting, to possibly embroidery (in the style of artist Ann Carrington) I will see if I can find something to stick in at least one of these areas.
5. Soft Drinks.
I gave up coffee this year and switched to tea. I'm not sure if I feel any better, but I do enjoy it so much. I don't drink that many soft drinks, but maybe they should go too. My body will thank me for rejecting the chemicals and the sugar.
6. Ugly Pajamas.
Over the last few years, I've started wearing my husband's t-shirts to bed. Calvin Klein does make an incredibly comfortable shirt, however, this has got to stop! Not only will my husband appreciate the change, I know it will make me feel better about myself when I look in the mirror. Silk Chinese pajamas could be a good solution.
That's all I've got today. I'm am certain there are at least five other things I don't need in 2011, but if I don't see any of these six, my life will easily be a much better place. How about you? What will you be leaving in 2010?
