Downtime and DIY with my Daughter

 What a nice lazy weekend spent with my family!

I have one child left at home and she is such a joy!  I am very lucky!  She's 15, but still sweet, a dedicated student and a driven dancer.  It's not often that she even has time to be lazy, but this weekend (after five hours of dance) she and her friend wanted to make jewelry and wanted me to help.  Yay!  There are only so many of these kinds of days left for us before she flies out of our nest.  If you like DIY's and you've never visited the blog Honestly WTF, you're missing out!  We made the Wrap Bracelet, we tried the Braided Hex Nut Bracelet and got the materials to do the Shibori but ran out of time and energy.

 The Wrap bracelet was really easy and came out looking great.  We did not use the suggested materials for the braided hex nut bracelet-they used twine, we used embroidery thread-and this change resulted in lots of frustration and just an okay looking result.

We may try the hex nut bracelet again, as Sofie is insistent that we get it right!

I never made it to the Post-line Friday, as I spent the entire day creating flowers, out of ribbon, to be sewn on costumes for the community performance of Ballet Under the Stars.  I really don't know how to sew, so (ha! sew-so) the task of creating all of these flowers was kind of overwhelming.  BUT!  I did it and the girls looked beautiful and everyone ooooed and ahhhhed over the costume with the blue flowers.  Unfortunately, you can't really see them in this picture, but they are there!  Every skirt has three large flowers above the ruffles.

Sofie's 14th Birthday Weekend

Spent the weekend celebrating my youngest daughter's birthday! We had gorgeous weather and went to the park to play amid the azaleas and honeysuckle in full bloom. We are fortunate that just steps from our front door is Norton Art Gallery. The gardens have been going through a major update in the last few years and the results are spectacular. There are hills and trails, beautiful water features, sculpture, riots of pink and white azaleas and honeysuckle groves.

After fulfilling and doubling our exercise goal, we happily discovered we were just in time for the final day of the Maxfield Parrish exhibit inside the museum. We all had our favorites, but the colorful ads from the 1920's made us all smile.
