Making Space for Me and a More Modern Buffet

Farewell, old friend.

I have had a piece of furniture in my house that I haven't liked since the day we brought it home.  We were at an antique auction and I think I initially responded to the drama of the piece, and the thrill of bidding.  At the time I lived in a house with 12 foot ceilings and really large rooms.  I bought it to go in the breakfast room adjacent to my kitchen.  My husband told me, that day at the auction, "it's not going to fit."  He was right.  I hate it when that happens!  It didn't fit in the breakfast room and it hasn't ever really fit anywhere.  I have been trying to make it work for 14 years.  We now live in a house with 8 foot ceilings and the scale and style really don't work!  Why did I hang on to it so long?  I think I just got comfortable with it being there.  And it has done a very good job of holding massive amounts of mail, dispensing medicine from its drawers and holding all the crap I don't know where else to put.  But it irritated me everytime I actually looked at it!  Well, no more!  I'm done!  The resale shop is picking it up this afternoon!  When I joyfully told my 14 year old daughter to say goodbye, I thought she was going to cry. "Mom, it's part of our family!"  And it has been in the house as long as she has!  But,what?!  I took a moment, but NO!  It's time to go.  This particular marriage is over.  I'm hoping that by physically making space in my home for better choices, I will also clear some space in my head for the same.  Have any of you had trouble letting go of a piece of furniture? 

So?!  Farewell, old friend, but it's time to start dating again!

Which one of these guys would you like to go out with?  Can you see yourself committing to any of them?  I don't know yet.  Perhaps I should at least wait until my old friend has left the building.
